Most Aggressive Dog Breeds and How To Prevent Your Dog From Attacking
When we think about dog attacks, imaginations often jump to the big dogs: the Dobermans, the Pit Bulls, the Rottweilers, but even small breeds can become aggressive, but their loyalty should never be questioned. Jay Trucks & Associates sheds some light on which small dogs could cause big problems:
Lhasa Apso is a fluffy dog whose looks would melt anyone’s heart. However the Lhasa Apso’s ancestors were bred to protect the temples in Tibet and that is why they are hostile towards people who they are not familiar with like children or guests.
Do not be fooled by the Manchester Terrier’s lively nature. Sure this breed is playful but that does not help with curbing its strong hunting instincts. History tells us that this dog was bred to hunt vermin and that is where its aggressiveness comes from. It is not a good idea to have a Manchester in a home where you already have other small pets like kittens, hamsters, etc.
The Cocker Spaniels are an intelligent and playful breed. However a cocker with the rage syndrome can become very aggressive to people he or she is not familiar with.
Jack Russell Terriers are hyper and energetic and owners need to make sure that this breed gets its fair share of exercise every day. Otherwise, it may become restless and chew down the house. You will see this dog taking on larger dog breeds too.
How To Prevent Aggression
As owners you need to show your dog that what they do is wrong. When your dog is being playful with you and shows signs of aggression you need to reinforce words like ‘no’ and ‘off’ and make sure you cross your arms away from the canine’s reach to show them what is acceptable behavior and does not warrant participation.
Most dogs are aggressive towards strangers. Puppy parties that help dogs and children intermingle and familiarize themselves are helpful for your canine friend when meeting people outside the household.
