A man in Fort Gratiot died recently after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a restaurant. At the time the accident occurred, the restaurant was in the process of closing up for the night.

It was later revealed by the sheriff’s department that the driver and a Marysville woman were involved in a road rage accident directly before the crash. The woman passed the driver on the right shoulder of the road as both vehicles were traveling. The road then went from three lanes to five lanes and the male driver passed the woman on the right by swerving in front of her, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle.

The driver was taken to a nearby medical facility where he died from injuries incurred in the collision.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that road rage involves violent, aggressive driving behavior such as tailgating and speeding.

While the exact number of annual deaths caused by road rage is difficult to determine, the NHTSA reports that aggressive driving results in approximately one third of all motor vehicle accidents and two thirds of the fatalities that result from motor vehicle accidents.
