Guarding Yourself Against Defective Drugs

If you watch even one hour of television per day, your are more than likely to see a commercial for Gardasil. Gardasil is a vaccine that is used to protect young girls and women from the human papillomavirus. The human papillomavirus causes cervical cancer and other diseases. Drugs like these, however, are often released for use in the public, and subsequently recalled due to unforeseen side-effects.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is charged with protecting the public from the release of drugs that can be dangerous. Frequently, however, the FDA approves drugs for use, and years later comes to find that they are, in fact, dangerous, and issues a recall. However, all too often these recalls come far too late and millions of people have already suffered from injuries caused by the taking of these defective drugs.

Gardasil has the potential to become one of those defective drugs, as it has recently been linked to Guillain-Barre syndrome. Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare nervous disorder. Although no recall has been issued yet, there have been many of these types of vaccines and drugs that have been released, only for their dangerous side-effects to become apparent years later.

Defective product laws are intended to hold companies, including drug companies, who manufacture defective products, accountable for the injuries they cause. You may be entitled to receive compensation for a number of expenses, including medical expenses, if you have taken a drug that was approved by the FDA and subsequently caused you to suffer injuries.
