Michigan Workers’ Compensation Law
It is important to note that workers’ comp benefits are paid out by them employer or on behalf of the employer by an insurance company. The state of Michigan does not pay out workers’ compensation benefits. However, there are state agencies that are responsible for overseeing the workers’ compensation system. The Bureau of Workers’ Disability Compensation keeps records of workers who have filed for workers’ comp, the payments, and any disputes that may arise. Disputes that are not resolved may then go to the Workers’ Compensation Board of Magistrates. The Board hears only workers’ compensation cases. If an employee is unhappy with what the Board says, they may then appeal it to the Workers’ Compensation Appellate Commission.
While most employers may comply with the workers’ comp laws, you should never have to worry that compensation you deserve will be withheld by an employer. You may also find that once you decide to file a claim that you don’t understand everything that is involved with it. It is for these reasons that you should seek out an attorney experienced with workers’ compensation claims.
