Workers' Compensation
Workers' Compensation is a state-run insurance program that covers medical expenses and compensates employees for a portion of lost wages if they were hurt on the job or have acquired diseases, sickness or injury from their work environment.
All State of Michigan employers are required under the law to hold worker's compensation insurance. The State necessitates that every employer subject to the Workers' Disability Compensation Act provide some proof that it will be able to provide workers' compensation benefits should their employees become injured. Most Michigan employers purchase an insurance policy from a private insurance company to demonstrate their capability.
In Michigan, worker's compensation handles the following expenses if a worker is killed or injured on the job:
- Medical
- Income recovery
- Death and burial costs
